Mahindra & Mahindra is getting ready to make a big impact in the high-quality SUV section with the expected launch of the XUV900. This much-awaited coupe-SUV has been creating excitement, especially since people think it will look like the eye-catching XUV Aero design shown at the 2016 Auto Expo. While the company hasn’t officially said when it will launch, several reports suggest it could be shown sometime this year, with some guesses pointing to a launch in early to mid-2025.
Design and Size
The XUV900 is expected to have a special coupe design with a sloping roof, which is different from the usual SUV shape. This design idea was first seen in the XUV Aero concept, which looked very modern and sporty. Key design features expected on the XUV900 include:
- Smooth Coupe Shape: The most noticeable thing will be the sharply sloping roof that smoothly joins with the back.
- Strong Front Look: Expect a modern and confident front design, possibly using some of Mahindra’s current design styles, like C-shaped daytime running lights and a special grille.
- LED Lights: The vehicle will likely have LED headlights and daytime running lights to help see better and give it a modern look.
- Improved Air Flow: A body designed to move through air better, possibly with smooth door handles and a back spoiler, could help how it looks and how well it uses fuel.
- Large Alloy Wheels: Expect stylish and large alloy wheels, maybe around 20 inches, to make it look strong on the road.
- Size: According to some reports, the XUV900 could be about 4,790 mm long, 1,905 mm wide, and 1,690 mm tall, with a distance between the front and back wheels of around 2,775 mm. These sizes suggest a big vehicle that looks impressive on the road.
Engine and How It Performs
While official details about the engines are still unknown, there are guesses about what engines might power the XUV900. Given what Mahindra currently offers, it’s likely that the XUV900 might come with both petrol (gasoline) and diesel engine choices:
- Petrol Engine: A 2.0-litre turbocharged mStallion petrol engine, known for its power in other Mahindra models, might be offered.
- Diesel Engine: The well-known 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, possibly made even better, is also a likely possibility.
- Transmission: Both manual and automatic gearboxes are expected to be available.
- Electric Version: Interestingly, there are strong signs that the XUV900 might also be launched as an electric SUV, possibly built on Mahindra’s new INGLO EV platform. This electric version could offer two battery sizes (60 kWh and 80 kWh) with a driving range of more than 400 kilometers on a single charge. It might be offered with power going to the front wheels (FWD) or all four wheels (AWD).
Inside and Features
The inside of the Mahindra XUV900 is expected to focus on comfort and new technology, making it a high-quality offering. Expected features include:
- Three 12.3-inch Screens: A main feature could be three connected 12.3-inch screens for entertainment, driver information, and maybe a third screen for the passenger to use.
- Modern Steering Wheel: A steering wheel with two spokes that vibrates to give feedback and has buttons built in is a possibility.
- Nice Seats and Mood Lighting: High-quality materials and lights that change color are expected to create a fancy feeling inside.
- Glass Roof: A large glass roof that opens is likely to make the inside feel bigger and brighter.
- Advanced Driving Help Systems (ADAS): A full set of ADAS features, including cruise control that adjusts to traffic, lane keeping assist, and more, is very likely.
- Connectivity and Entertainment: Expect features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, many USB Type-C charging ports, and a high-quality sound system, possibly from Harman Kardon.
- Comfort and Ease: Features like air conditioning with separate controls for different areas, air vents in the back, a 360-degree camera, and a wireless phone charger are also expected.
Who It Will Compete With and Price
Once launched, the Mahindra XUV900 will likely compete with other high-quality SUVs and upcoming coupe-SUVs in the Indian market. Possible rivals could include the Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Meridian, and the Tata Curvv (especially its electric version).
The price of the XUV900 is expected to be between ₹20 to ₹35 lakh (without taxes and other charges), depending on the version and engine type. The electric version might cost more.
