Have you heard of Tom Ripley? Well, buckle up because this story on Netflix is a wild ride about him. It’s a tale of pretending to be someone else, of dark secrets, and a whole lot of suspense. But before we dive in, let’s answer some quick questions.
How many episodes are there? There are eight episodes in this first season, each one packed with twists and turns.
Will there be a season 2? That’s the big question everyone’s asking! The ending leaves things wide open, so it feels like there’s more to come. But Netflix hasn’t officially announced anything yet.
So, what’s the story about? (Warning: Spoilers ahead!)
Our main character, Tom Ripley, isn’t exactly living the high life. He’s kind of a nobody in New York City, struggling to make ends meet. Then, a rich guy named Mr. Greenleaf offers him a chance to change everything. Mr. Greenleaf wants Tom to travel to Italy and convince his son, Dickie, to come back to America.
Tom arrives in Italy and meets Dickie. Dickie has everything Tom doesn’t – money, charm, a beautiful girlfriend named Marge. Tom becomes obsessed with Dickie’s life. He wants it all.
One thing leads to another, and things take a dark turn. Tom ends up killing Dickie. But instead of facing the consequences, Tom hatches a crazy plan. He starts pretending to be Dickie! He uses Dickie’s clothes, his money, even his signature way of talking.
Marge, at first, doesn’t suspect a thing. But there’s a problem. Dickie had some loose ends to tie up – a friend named Freddie who knows Dickie’s secrets. Tom, worried that Freddie will expose him, kills Freddie too.
The pressure starts to build on Tom. He has to constantly keep up the act, living a lie as Dickie. He even starts a relationship with Marge, all while knowing the truth could come crashing down at any moment.
Meanwhile, an inspector named Ravini starts to get suspicious. He doesn’t quite believe Tom’s story about Dickie. Marge, too, starts to have doubts. She writes a book about her experiences in Italy, and includes a picture of the real Dickie.
The season ends with Tom, seemingly safe and sound, living a luxurious life in Venice under a new fake name. But there’s a catch. Inspector Ravini receives Marge’s book and sees the picture. He finally realizes he’s been fooled by Tom all along.
Did Tom get away with it? Well, that’s the big question the show leaves us with. Inspector Ravini might be on his way to find Tom, or maybe not. We’ll have to wait and see if there’s a season 2 to find out!
So, is it worth watching? If you like thrillers with complex characters and surprising twists, then this show is definitely for you. Andrew Scott, the actor who plays Tom Ripley, gives an amazing performance that will keep you guessing until the very end.
This story might be a little dark, but it’s also a fascinating look at what people can do when they desperately want to be someone else. Will Tom continue to live a lie, or will his past finally catch up to him? That’s a question only season 2, if it happens, can answer.
