LAS VEGAS, NV – Soul Train Awards 2023: SZA, Usher, and Victoria Monét emerged as the big winners at the 35th annual Soul Train Awards, held at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 26, 2023. The ceremony, hosted by Taraji P. Henson, celebrated the best in soul, R&B, and hip-hop music, honoring both established artists and rising stars.
SZA, the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, led the pack with three wins, including Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, Song of the Year for “Kill Bill,” and Album of the Year for “SOS.” Usher, the R&B veteran, also took home three awards, including Best R&B/Soul Male Artist, Certified Soul Award, and Best Dance Performance for “Boyfriend.” Victoria Monét, the rising star of the R&B scene, earned two awards, including Best New Artist and Best Collaboration for “On My Mama” featuring Lil Baby.
Other notable winners included Mary J. Blige, who received the Ashford & Simpson Award for Legendary Verve, and Chris Brown, who won Best Male Hip-Hop Artist. The night also featured a special tribute to the late Aretha Franklin, performed by Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, and Gladys Knight.
