Honor and Google Cloud Unveil Breakthrough AI Image Editing Features at Google Cloud Next 2025
Las Vegas, Nevada – April 16, 2025 – Honor, a top global company that makes smart devices, made a big announcement at Google Cloud Next 2025 about a major step forward in phone photography. The company showed off its new set of AI-powered photo editing tools, created by working closely with Google Cloud and using Google’s powerful Imagen model. This announcement shows Honor’s promise to its new “ALPHA PLAN,” a $10 billion investment over five years to become a world leader in the AI device world.
The teamwork between Honor and Google Cloud makes their connection even stronger, building on earlier work like Magic Portal 2.0. By using Google’s advanced AI systems and the smart Gemini language models, Honor is getting ready to bring a new time of smart devices that are easy to use and very helpful.
AiMAGE: Smart Photo Editing Using Google Imagen
The main part of Honor’s announcement is AiMAGE, a new group of AI-driven photo editing tools made to make it easier and better for people to work with their photos. These features, powered by Google’s Imagen AI model that creates images, promise to fix common photo problems and open up new ways to be creative right on Honor phones.
The first set of features in the AiMAGE group includes:
- AI Expand: This amazing tool deals with the problem of photos not being framed perfectly after you take them. By using Imagen’s ability to create images, AI Expand lets people zoom out, turn, and change the layout of their photos to get a better look. The AI cleverly looks at what’s already there and smoothly makes the missing parts, basically making the picture bigger than it was originally – up to twice its size. This feature is really useful for taking quick pictures without worrying about getting the framing exactly right, because you can change it later. Honor says that the improved way the AI fills in the extra parts makes sure they look natural with the original picture, even in complicated scenes like cities and landscapes.
- AI Eraser: Dealing with the common annoyance of unwanted things or people showing up in the perfect shot, the AI Eraser offers a simple way to fix it. Similar to tools on Google Pixel phones, people can just tap or circle the things they want to remove, and the AI, again using Imagen, smartly fills in the empty spots with things that make sense. This gets rid of the need for complicated manual editing, letting people easily clean up their photos and get professional-looking results right on their phones.
- AI Improve: Knowing that many photos are low quality, especially older ones, AI Improve focuses on making photos clearer and more detailed. This feature uses AI to sharpen and fix images, giving new life to shots that might have seemed unusable before. By adding more clarity and detail, AI Improve can greatly improve how low-quality photos look, making them good for sharing and remembering moments.
Making AI Easy for Everyone: Bringing Advanced Features to More People
A key part of Honor’s plan, as shown at Google Cloud Next, is the goal of making AI technology easy for everyone to use. The company stressed that it wants to bring these advanced AI-powered photo editing features not just to its top-of-the-line phones but also to its more affordable ones. The recently released Honor 400 Lite in Europe is a good example, already having AI Expand, AI Eraser, and AI Improve.
Eric Fang, a top manager at Honor, highlighted this promise, saying that using Google Cloud’s strong system allows Honor to offer these AI features, which need a lot of power, smoothly even on cheaper phones. This approach aims to change what budget phones can do, making powerful AI editing available to more people.
Looking Ahead: Video Creation and AI Work Tools
Beyond photo editing, Honor also gave a sneak peek at its future AI plans. The company announced that upcoming phones, planned for release in May 2025, will feature Veo, Google’s advanced AI video creation model. This addition promises to let people create videos generated by AI that look like real motion, just by describing what they want.
Also, Honor is working with Google to use Gemini language models to create advanced work tools. These new features aim to provide smart help for everyday tasks, making work easier and helping people be more efficient.
A New Time of Smart Devices
The announcements made by Honor at Google Cloud Next 2025 show the company’s strong belief in how AI can change the future of phone technology. By making its partnership with Google Cloud stronger and investing heavily in AI research and development through its ALPHA PLAN, Honor is setting itself up to be a major innovator in the world of smart devices.
The introduction of the AiMAGE group, powered by Google’s Imagen, is a big step forward in phone photography, offering people easy-to-use and powerful tools to make their visual stories better. Along with future improvements in video creation and work tools, Honor’s commitment to using AI promises to deliver richer, easier-to-use, and more helpful phone experiences for people everywhere. This teamwork shows a shared vision between Honor and Google Cloud to push the limits of AI and create a new standard for smart devices.
